Knights of Columbus Distribute 16 Dozen Coats to Vancouver Children

In November and December, the Knights of Columbus Bishop A.M.A. Blanchet Council #15730 distributed nearly 200 coats to families in need through St. Vincent de Paul.

“Helping children in need was a fundamental reason for the formation of the Knights of Columbus in 1882 and continues to be a very important component of our work today” said Knights of Columbus Grand Knight, Phil Marceau.

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal organization with nearly 1.9 million members worldwide. It is also one of the most active charitable organizations in the United States. The Knights set a new record for charitable giving in 2015 with donations of more than $175 million and 73.5 million hours of service to charitable causes.

During September and October, Knights of Columbus Bishop A.M.A. Blanchet Council #15730 raised $5,421 during their annual Tootsie Roll Drive at the Grand Central Fred Meyer and Mill Plain Wal-Mart.

80 percent of the money raised stays in our community to help organizations helping people with disabilities.  The Arc of Southwest Washington and NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will each receive $2,163.  Additionally, $1,081 was sent to K of C Charities for distribution to Special Olympics.

Jack Charleboix led the efforts for the Knights.  Way to go Jack!
